Parent Requirements
Parents form a vital part of any summer hockey program! Without their support, summer hockey most surely would not exist.
One has to remember that Elite Summer Hockey Teams are put together for the players, thus giving them the opportunity to play with other players who have a similar or higher level of skill; something the players may not have on their own winter Teams. This creates the opportunity for their child to improve their own skills by playing at a higher tempo and pace.
financial commitments are only a part of what is expected from our parents. Participation in attending and being involved in Team activities, both on and off the ice may be required.
As a guideline, Parents should:
- display a positive outlook both in and away from the arena;
- give positive encouragement to their child, who is giving her / his best effort each time they are on the ice;
- respect other parents, fans, team staff members, the opposition players and especially the on-ice officials;
- don't try to 'coach' from the stands or at HOME - let the coaching staff COACH!
- help the coaching staff with encouraging, accepting and enforcing Team rules for the players both on and off the ice;
- be careful in how they act in and around other parents, other Teams and other players -as they are ROLE MODELS; and
- lastly, have FUN! Be supportive no matter what the outcome!! Encourage SPORTSMANSHIP!
As a Hockey Parent, Parents should:
- refrain from negativity around the child and other Team players;
- be positive and show good sportsmanship;
- bring their child to all Team functions (on and off ice) in a timely manner;
- be involved in the budget discussions for the Team and be prepared to meet all financial obligations;
- ensure their child has all the proper and protective equipment;
- don't be afraid to ask if you can help - you would be surprise at how much you can;
- if you have a problem about the Team or with the way something is handled, take the Coach aside and ask if you can have a word with him in private and keep an open mind - not up in the stands where other's can hear; and
- lastly, have FUN! Be supportive no matter what the outcome!! Encourage SPORTSMANSHIP!
