TRYOUTS

The Northern Alberta Hockey Association (NAA) is an organization dedicated to the promotion of summer elite hockey for girls and boys from 'Tykes through to Junior'. The coaching staff of each Team is responsible for the scouting / recruitment of players for their respective Teams.

As our coaches have exceptional experience and knowledge; knowing what type of players they wish to have on their Teams; tryouts are not always warranted. Some teams have tryouts and some do not.

There are a number of different tryouts available for each athlete and it is best to view all the documents before deciding whether or not to commit. Please feel free to ask or seek help in answering any questions which you have by contacting any of the Team staff members identified or else members of the NAA Executive who are more than happy to answer any of your questions.

It is the decision of each of the coaching staff members who make up that particular Team, whether or not they will have or not have tryouts. To be included as a Team member without tryouts ensures a commitment from the Team to you and visa versa.

In order to participate in tryouts, a player will be personally scouted and invited or they will be recommended by a coach or current NAA player as someone that should be included in our high performance program. Some new players who may feel they have what it takes to play on a particular Team should contact the coach of that Team and after discussions a tryout may be extended.

Some Teams have 'open' tryouts which mean that members of that particular Team will be selected from the tryouts and everyone is encouraged to participate. Again, contacting the coaching staff is necessary to express your interest and desire to play.

For those of you that may be new to our program, or if you want to become involved in our tremendous hockey program, please feel free to contact a coaching staff member of that particular Team. Members of our coaching staff are listed on our contacts webpage or click on this link:

Hockey Player

Look no further as NAA is proud to be one of two official representatives from Canada that are allowed to participate in the prestigious Czech Hockey Challenge Cup (beginning of August each summer)! Each year NAA sends a number of Teams to play in this Tournament as well as to enjoy the European country side in a way and manner that is specifically designed for the hockey player and their traveling companions.

The sporting travel organization that puts this fantastic trip together specializes in putting the right package together for each participating Team. Entry to the Czech Challenge Cup, cultural tours and a qualified guide accompanies each and every group.

Each travel package is approximately two weeks in length, but is put together with your input well in advance so that proper clearances and schedules can be made. It is the general agreement of the group that determines .... Click on this link .......

As indicated previously, most players are in fact scouted out beforehand and a coach will approach the parents of the child and express a desire to have that player involved in the program. Some players are identified as 'walk-ons' - those that the coaches know little about and express the interest, desire and skill to now be!

But, having said that, not always is there on method that is a practical manner to put together the 'Best Team'. There are a number of other 'issues / traits' that we feel are important and must be considered. Again, the final decision is up to the coaching staff of that particular Team.

In order for those involved in Elite Summer Hockey, NAA has spoken with various representatives of the Staff, Parents and Players and compiled a brief set of guidelines that should be considered when someone is involved in our NAA program.
